Björn Ulvaeus is one of the “B”s in Abba and wrote the Swedish pop quartet’s hits with Benny Andersson.

Abba star Björn Ulvaeus says he's using artificial intelligence (AI) to help him write music. "I'm currently writing a musical with the help of AI," the 80-year-old said at an event in London, according to the US industry publication "The Hollywood Reporter."

AI is a great tool, Ulvaeus continued. But it also has its flaws: "One misconception is that an AI can write an entire song. It's terrible at that—very bad. And thank goodness! It's also very bad at lyrics. But it can give you ideas."

Passion for digital technologies

When asked how artificial intelligence compares to his Abba partner Benny Andersson, he joked: "It's faster and does exactly what you tell it." But it's not the same as having a real songwriting partner.

Ulvaeus and Andersson co-wrote the ABBA hits "Mamma Mia," "Waterloo," and "Dancing Queen." Ulvaeus has a strong passion for digital technologies. He is particularly fascinated by artificial intelligence—and its impact on the music industry.
